Affected by the shutdown of the DSRP or cuts to the Disabled Students Program?
Looking for peer support or new friends at Cal?
Recently, there have been budget cuts to several programs offered through the Disabled Student Program (DSP), which resulted in the complete elimination of the Disabled Student Readiness Program (DSRP), which offered guidance and support to students affected by ASD and other disabilities. The DSRP aided students in a) transitioning to independent life at Cal, b) social support, c) preparation for opportunities on campus and d) employment success for life after Cal. In response to the DSRP’s elimination, Spectrum is now offering the Spectrum Mentorship Program, slated to begin in the Spring of 2017. We are looking for both Mentors and Mentees to participate in the program.
As a MENTOR, you will spend at least one hour during the week with your mentee, as well as attend social group meetings every other week, held by Spectrum with your mentee and the other mentee/mentor pairs to focus on different topics. These topics range from accessing resources, to career opportunities, to schedule planning. Spectrum offers an orientation for all mentors before meeting your mentees that provides you with the information and skills you need to be the best mentor you can be.
As a MENTEE, you will be given a mentor that will offer you the support you need to navigate life at Cal. There will be social group meetings to attend with your mentor to meet other mentee/mentor pairs and offer you the extra support you may need here at Cal. We encourage all students who feel they may benefit from these services to participate.
