How does Spectrum at Cal promote Autism Awareness? Why is it important?
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are prevalent in our society, affecting 1 in 59 children. Currently, there is difficulty among those on the spectrum and their families to receive the adequate healthcare and community support. Our student-run club on campus, Spectrum at Cal, strives to promote autism awareness, inclusion, and community building through our club meetings, awareness weeks, and on-campus events to combat the stigma that those on the spectrum face.
What is the 5K Run all about?
Every spring, the 5K Run is held by Spectrum at Cal in order to raise money for local autism and disability-focused nonprofit organizations. Some of these organizations include BORP, Special Needs Aquatic Program, and more. All profits from the fundraiser will go directly to the non-profit organizations agreed upon by Spectrum at Cal. However, if you are aware of other autism-focused nonprofits that would benefit from the donations, feel free to reach out to us! We would love to hear about the organization and potentially donate part of the proceeds towards them.
And as always, we would love to see you at the Run in April! You can contact us below to register, donate, or volunteer.
